This review is from: The Way I am (Audio CD)
I purchased this album from the US a week ago as I liked Ana's debut single 'We Are' from Spiderman 2. Considering that I live in the UK, I couldn't wait until the end of February to purchase it and since it is released in the US I thought why not buy it. I have to say though that I don't think 'We Are' reflected my expectations on how I thought the rest of the album would sound. Ana's debut single was fantastic in my opinion as it was a good pop/rock song that sounded edgy and raw. I thought the rest of her album would have had that edgy pop/rock sound which does in a way, but in my opinion doesn't match the sound of 'We Are'. It's a pity as Ana has that unique voice that you know is Ana straight away, but the album just sounds to pop for her voice. As much as I seem to criticise this album it does have reasonable good songs and Ana is talneted as a song-writer, as the majority of songs on the album have been written by her. The stand out tracks for me are 'We Are', 'Don't Cry For Pain', 'The Way I Am', 'I'm Stupid', 'Life' and 'Coz I Can'. The rest of the songs are a good enough effort but 'Crest Of The Wave' is utterly poor as it is a slow pop song that does not suit Ana at all.
Ana could have and still does have the potential to be a good artist for the pop/rock market, but unfortunately this album is just too pop than rock. I reckon given time and growth, Ana will give us a more mature sound and give us a more rockier album that I think she deserves.
If you like your rock chic's like me, then you should still buy this album as I have a feeling that this woman is going to have more success up her sleeve with future album releases. For now though, just enjoy the album as it is for a first time release of Ana's, to get into the pop/rock market and into the charts.
Good luck Ana!!!
