some good features, but NOT low-latency
, 21 April 2014
This review is from: Avantree Roxa Hi Fi Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter, Home Stereo Wireless Receiver, Bluetooth Audio Receiver, Support 2 Devices, CHARGE-FREE, aptX for High Quality Music (Electronics)
I would have given this 5 stars, but I was disappointed to discover that, although it supports the aptX codec, it does not supports low-latency. This means there is a very noticeable delay in transmission - I couldn't measure it accurately but it is at least 1/4 second, certainly enough to prevent lip-sync. It is also a problem if you want to use it to provide a wireless link to surround speakers, as they will be delayed relative to the front speakers - it sounds horrendous - like a big echo! The delay is as bad as with earlier BT codecs.
As you will gather if you google 'aptX', low-latency is supposed to be one of its big features, so this was a disappointment.
NEWS: Avantec responded very quickly when I pointed out this same problem in relation to another of their products, the BTTC-200X, aka 'Saturn'. They tell me they will soon have a new version of that product, to be called the 'Saturn Pro' which will provide low-latency. No news re an update to this Roxa product though.
Latency problems aside - this will not be an issue for straight MP3 music links - this seems to be an excellent product, with the bonus of an alert and responsive online support team.
