A latecomer to Garth Nix, I have devoured with singleminded intentness each and every one of The Old Kingdom books in less than a week. Something I have not done for a very long time indeed and something that was long overdue for this very jaded fantasy/SF nerd. I am unable to give this trilogy enough superlatives to describe just how damn good they are - the characterisation, the premis, the writing are all superb, lyrical and suck you into a world of complete and utter delight. I have found myself transported and not a little afraid sometimes, but hungry for more of the same. Read these books, I implore you, and be grateful for something so masterfully written but don't be put off by any suggestions thay are like Tolkien for they are not. Relish them; they are worth it and not just for the sprogs!
