This is an excellent debut book and if the author continues to write as well as, or hopefully even better than he has here, then I think he'll secure himself a great career.
I really like that there's lots of Scottish patter dotted about, most of which I use myself :-) so it's always nice to be able to relate to how a book is written.
The story itself is pretty fast paced, there's quite a lot happening early on and at one point you're kind of thinking, how can he take this further, happily, he manages to. Be prepared though, it's pretty gory in parts. Which for me is fine though I know some readers don't appreciate so much blood and guts!
I think the ending is perfect. It can be left where it is or alternatively, a sequel might work well too. I look forward to more work from this author :-)
