Firstly the film looks (never seen this in widescreen!) and sounds (front speakers dominated surround) AMAZING on this dvd.
Theres been a lot of controversy over the english dub not being included. Personally I'll take this jewel of a film any way it comes but it would have been easy to include the dub on a seperate audio track. It should have occurred to EUREKA that this type of film is going to have a nostalgia factor for people who saw it as a child and for it not to be presented in that same version some may feel disappointed.
This is my favourite of Laloux's criminally undervalued and unfortunately relatively obscure films. It's touching without being sentimental, has a beautiful languid pace which pulls you in and has some vividly beautiful images quite unlike anything else. I generally stick it on when I want a chillout (it's a great hangover movie - lol).
Some sort of extras would have been a bonus but the booklet thats supplied contains a great essay and some lovely pictures.
The dvd's very well presented and reminded me inparticular of Criterion's dvd's - a classy package.
Well done to Eureka for releasing a delight for fans of intelligent, artistic cinema that deserves a new generation of fans to appreciate it!x
