This is an engaging story about a private detective, Mary, who can see ghosts. She is following up an old death, now thought to be murder, and it's possible a senator is implicated. At the same time, another one of five small girls is found murdered. Coincidence?
The characters had good back-stories - Mary's old life in the Chicago police, the local Sherrif's personal loss (his wife's unsolved disappearance 8 years ago) gives them a three dimensionality. I also found the dialogue funny and the writing generally well crafted.
I found the ending a little hard to credit. To me, the ghosts' appearance at the end which helps Mary and the Sherrif to make the arrest, was a step too far in believing. Nevertheless, it's a good and funny read with an lot of excitement and I enjoyed it.
