This review is from: Classic Ghost Stories of M R James [DVD] (DVD)
I wanted to wait until Christmas to watch this but I just couldn't resist! Halloween seemed like a good excuse to listen to some ghost stories anyway.
I've been a fan of M.R. James for some time so I'll always be a little biased but these stories should please anyone looking for a winter 'chiller'. They bring something a little different to the table especially when compared to a fully dramatised story because there's just the teller in his study with only a few small parts of each story brought to life visually.
The Christopher Lee Ghost Stories for Christmas which are on the BFI Ghost Stories Definitive Collection box set are fairly similar to this and just as good.

Anyone seeking more M R James readings on DVD might benefit from a visit to the 'Nunkie Theatre' website. Robert LLoyd Parry, who performs such readings in theatres up and down the country, has released three up to now. His narrative style is different to the other readers discussed in the review, being more melodramatic and less sober and measured in tone. All the recordings are full length. There is no abridgement and may even be some embellishment. Two of the goodies available to accompany your Christmas malt are 'Canon Alberic's Scrapbook' and 'Lost Hearts'.
