I devoured this book in one sitting like Nowzad, Pen Farthing's first rescue dog, devouring sausages. It is an incredible book: uplifting, heart-breaking, nerve-wracking, hilarious and awe-inspiring. The story of how Royal Marines led by Farthing took stray dogs under their wing and subsequently went about rescuing them is unbelievable. The book is also exceptionally interesting, giving an insight into the life of our forces currently serving in Afghanistan without using too much jargon which may confuse the reader. As well as the story of the dogs, the stories of the marines and the Afghan police they become friends with are fascinating and moving.
I could use a lot more hyperbole in this review and I fear it will put you off so I will end here. This isn't just a book for dog-lovers; it's a book for anyone who admires bravery, determination and humanity.
