This is quite a good book for basic ukulele players. It takes you through from how to hold a uke, to strumming and picking. However if you're an absolute beginner it can go a bit fast. The tuning section for example. If you're an absolute novice I'd suggest a website like Uke School. However once you get on a little, the book comes into its own.
Another problem is that many of the songs the book uses as examples seem to be ones you'd be more familiar with if you were American - "Beautiful Brown Eyes" and "Stars and Stripes Forever" for example. If you're learning, then having to listen to the CD to find out what the practice track actually sounds like before you do your uke exercises is a bit annoying.
My last critisism is that some of the finger positions the book gives in the chord charts are difficult if you're a child or (like me) have small hands. There are easier ways of getting an E major chord than the one they give in the book (the website "Ukulele Boogaloo" do quite a good one as an alternate).
Saying that, this book is better than a lot of other beginners ukulele books. It gets you up and running quite quickly. However supplementing it with learning material from some uke websites will get you going a lot quicker.
