This console still stands out today.,
This review is from: Nintendo 64 Console (Grey) (Console)
The Nintendo 64 was the first console I bought with my own money (I'm talking about 1998). I still remember saving up loads of pocket money for this, and only managing to buy the console which came with one remote (those awesome remotes!) and no game. The first time I saw the N64 was at a friend's house, he had imported it from the USA. Just the shape of it gave me goose-bumps! The fact it had 4 ports for remotes allowing 4 people to play simultaneously was the most attractive aspect of it, until I saw the graphics on Mario Kart 64! We played for hours, non-stop, and I yearned for the console to be on sale in Europe so I could get my hands on one. My first game was FIFA 64. Legendary. I do not want to think of how many hours I spent exploring games on the N64, and how I NEVER got tired of playing games on it. Wave Race 64, Blast Corps, Mario 64, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, and few more (I had almost 20 games).
But the day came when for an array of reasons I gave my N64 away to a dear friend, as I knew he'd take good care of it. I still regret that decision, as he then gave it to a friend a year later and I never saw it again. The value THAT N64 had for me is infinite, as it represents MY first console, and the console that brought so many endless and memorable nights of fun with friends, especially on Golden Eye and Mario Kart!
I own a wii now, and am a very happy owner of a collection of classic games, including N64 games. Nintendo really has managed to get the leading edge over its competitors (xbox and sony) who only focus on graphics. Still, the wii experience is not quite the N64 experience and I don't know why... maybe it's the classic wii remote not being the same as the AWESOME N64 control, or maybe it's the novelty of the N64 games that has faded away with the years... either ways, N64 will remain in my memory as the best console to date, especially as the one that marked a new era in consoles, more importantly in multiplayer fun!
