I very much enjoyed this book. I loved Twigs' dry sense of humour and the tone in which she writes; many of the stories made me laugh out loud.
I have given the book four stars because I think that the illustrations don't do the text justice. It would be even better if there were reproductions of contemporary photographs, paintings and drawings of the animals who are such characters.
For example, Twigs writes about the Courtaulds' ring-tailed lemur, Mah-Jongg, who was infamous for biting people that he did not like. The couple included him in a formal oil-painting of themselves, and there is also a great photograph of him relaxing in his deckchair.
However, overall, this is a great little book, perfect for dipping into.
