Hugely underated and incredibly addictive,
This review is from: 10,000 Days (Audio CD)
Tool fans (Including myself) placed a phenominally large amount of expectation on this album, which I believe has led to the negative reaction from some corners.
It is easy to judge an album based on personal preconceptions of what we hope an album will sound like. I believe many wanted Lateralus mark II ,however, Tool didn't oblige and some have been left feeling deflated.
I strained to restrain my excitement at Tools new release and after a few listens of 10,000 Days came to realise that highs of a new type have been reached on this album.
Vicarious is an explosive and uplifting listen - Jambi contains one of metals greatest breakdowns - Wings for Marie/ 10,000 Days is a prog masterpiece full of texture and emotion - The Pot contains an infectious groove not heard in Tool's music since Undertow - Lost Keys/ Rosetta Stoned is an epic masterpiece (possibly my favourite Tool track ever created) -...and Intension and Right in Two complete the album leaving you feeling reflective, thoughtful and thoroughly satisfied. The only low points being the lamentable attempt at Native American music with a distorted twist that is Lipan Conjuring, and the uneccessary waste of cd space, Vigenti Tres (i just noise whichever way you choose to look at it).
Lateralus and Aenima are both phenominally good albums, but shouldn't be dwelled upon. 10,000 Days must be listened to with a clear and open mind. If you do this I think and hope you'll appreciate what you hear.
