nostalgia perfectly photographed,
This review is from: Last Stop! (Hardcover)
There can be few Londoners that remember the Routemaster that do not regret its demise. And this book captures that nostalgia perfectly; a series of photograph of two routes, capturing every aspect of these wonderful buses and their last crews.
They were a classic of corporate good design features. So much so that a new design, with the accessibility features in their replacements but also with the features of the Routemaster, the hop-on hop-off rear platform, became a feature of a Mayoral election. At the time of writing, a launch is due for 2012.
This book will help the uninformed discover what the fuss is all about. It's a treat. Of course, it would be unbalanced not to mention the other feature of this classic British design, true of so many such designs, although it was supposed to be a modular interoperable set of standard components it suffered from constant tinkering and improvements, undermining this key feature as carefully detailed in another great book about this great bus The Bus We Loved.
By way of an aside: the London Bus was originally a French idea and these photographs are by a German. Par for the course, really.
