I liked how this was not necessarily a love story, a coming of age story, a mystery or whatever. It was a little bit of everything. However, I can't help but feeling that it could have been much better. I liked how the language suddenly became poetic at times, how the confusion of the narrator was given so clearly, but most of the characters were not significant. Plus, I don't think the problem in the family, i.e, how the sisters couldn't get on well and how dominant the father was etc, was very clear until the narrator's accident. Unfortunately, I guessed the ending so there was no suspense for me, but I liked how the fairy tales were incorporated and how they gave us a bit of the narrator's inner thoughts.
However, I didn't see why the nickname "liars" was important. It could have been anything.
I think it would be a good read anyway, but I think it would be better for autumn when the weather is getting cooler and no matter how old, one can't help thinking that the school year is ahead. I'd still recommend this book to my friends and students and hope that they will find something that they like anyway.
