Promising but not trouble free.,

Bought as a replacement for Norton which, although not causing any problems, was beginning to seem pricey and bloated - and I hate feeling locked in to any particular product. Vipre was coming up as much cheaper, reportedly more effective, and with free technical support.
It installed fairly easily on my two laptops, though not without having to have two attempts for the second one. The interface is clean and simple, the whole thing feels much leaner than Norton.
A few days ago, it temporarily blocked Google, Orange and BBC Weather as bad sites (does it know something the rest of us don't?); and the ante-phishing engine deleted all the links in Amazon and various other sites. That seems to have stopped now. To be fair, the Vipre Support site accepted there was a temporary problem of false positives with the bad site blocker.
Before that, one of the laptops intermittently failed to respond to mouse clicks. I assume it was too busy talking to Vipre. And it keeps wanting to scan my external hard drives even though I thought I had set it to ignore them. If these issues recur we will need that free support which I have not yet tested.
Conclusion; too early to say whether it is as unobstrusive and effective as reported. But for the price, it is worth a try.
