This review is from: The Doors: L.A. Woman, 40th Anniversary (Audio CD)
For me this is the definitive version of the Morrison-fronted Doors 1971 swansong L.A Woman. Mainly because there is no extra verse on 'Cars Hiss by my Window' and no new beginning to the title track, or any other embellishments included in the 2007 edition. For someone who grew up listening to the vinyl, the 40th anniversary 2 disc version is the one i'll listen to from hereon. the sound and clarity throughout is excellent..the bonus cd is interesting to hear but doesn't warrant repeated listens...it includes earlier versions of some of the songs and a couple of new ones. Nothing special...
The L.A Woman album itself does not have a weak moment on it. For many it is the Doors best album... It's all a matter of taste but it's a definite peak for sure. If you know the album there's no need for me to comment on the individual songs.....for those who haven't heard L.A Woman, the music is different to the earlier doors albums, being more bluesy mainly....rock and blues and great lyrics....... best just go and buy it..
This latest edition is packaged in a tasteful cardboard triple opening case with photos of the doors in their rehearsal room studio...there is also a booklet with colour photos and an essay by award winning music journalist David Fricke...
