I love mediaeval and Tudor poetry; the sometimes quite earthy humour of the "teller" is well know from Chaucer's works; but William Langland is another matter, as he may not have really existed at all; but been accredited as author of a group of well know fables etc.
It is to be remembered that at this time, not many could read, or even see the books that were in print; and relied on tale tellers etc to pass on the religious teachings as designated by the clergy. For this reason, the bards of the age were like travelling libraries for the peasantry.
The middle English can be hard going; but is worth the effort; and this excellent translation for use on the Kindle is great value. I only wish that someone would do this in Audio Books with a suitable narrator. It would be a gem.
