A Thinking Israeli Soldier,

This review is from: Company C: An American's Life as a Citizen-Soldier in Israel (Hardcover)
This is an honest account by an American Jew with few illusions. He believes that Israel must be defended, and voluntarily served in the IDF to do so. Although a practising Jew he claims no divine sanction for what he or the Israeli army has done or might do, and is well aware that the Palestinians have their own sorrows to bear. He's willing to face up to and accept the moral problems, especially once he's part of his Company, since what he does might mean his comrades' lives are lost. As with some other modern accounts of the Israeli army, he finds their leadership less than perfect. He has no easy answers, but lives in hope.
