A thrilling thriller,
This review is from: Gone Girl (Paperback)
At last, a book which keeps you guessing to the end.
The storyline has ben reviewed many times so suffice to say, this is a book which will demand you read to the end to find out just where it goes.
It's an interesting way to write, the standpoint from the two main protagonists, each believing they have the edge when, in fact, there is only one who is streets ahead of the other. It is, however, this point which rather lets down the whole idea of the book and thus the ending is not, to my mind, sufficiently conclusive.
I know that we like to make fun of the inadequate police, struggling against cuts and idiotic superior officers. In this book, this doesn't appear - we just have local police who are too thick to work out for themselves what probably has happened. There is, of course, brief mention of a lone officer stubbornly following it through and a throwaway mention, too, of the FBI involvement, presumably because the potential crimes took place cross State borders but that's it. I rather think such a media-strong following of the initial crime would provoke far more police activity but there we are; it's a work of fiction and if you like to be outsmarted as it progresses, then this is a great read. Heaven forbid there are too many characters in the world like these two.
