Another weird move by Sinead O'Connor,
This review is from: Throw Down Your Arms (Audio CD)
Sinead O'Connor undoubtedly has a great voice, and some of the songs she picks here are excellent (Burning Spear's Marcus Garvey,Bob Marley's War),but the combination of the two is quite odd, although there is a lot of passion put into the performances, she definitely 'means it'.
It often seems that Sinead O'Connor works much better in collaboration with artists as or more talented as she is-compare this to say,1000 Mirrors (with Asian Dub Foundation) or What Your Soul Sings (with Massive Attack) and this doesn't really compare. Is it possible that Sinead is suffering from writer's block?-her last album of all-new material,Faith And Courage, was released in 2000 after all. This album is definitely for die-hard Sinead O'Connor fans only, although they are probably used to this kind of strangeness by now, after all this does come after claiming to retire from the music business, being ordained as a priest, releasing an album of traditional irish songs, all that stuff with the Pope,etc...
