Beggars Opera - The Vertigo Years Anthology,
This review is from: Nimbus: The Vertigo Years Anthology (Audio CD)
Beggars Opera's debut album Act One reviewed previously is a magnificent collection of songs that featured some magnificent organ, guitar and drum sounds. The organ solos with those meddleys of classical music and some guitar riffs made this album a classic. There was also a single included which is also a great song as is the B-Side.
The second album issued was more progresive and diverse with a more progressive sound. Both these albums are featured on this anthology.
The third album has some good moments but the lyrics at times is very cheesy. The final CD of this collection is a bit of a hit and miss with some great songs and a few clunkers such as the version of classical gas.
The debut album 'Act One' is what I find one of the best debut albums from the early 1970s in my opinion and the albums that came out after this were a progression which changed in direction to the point the final few tracks of this set remind me of the band Mountain with a new vocalist.
