Louisa Harding is a well-loved, prolific and versatile producer of knitting patterns. True the embellishments are not knitted in - this is not textured knitting or edgings, it's things that are added on, so the publisher is inaccurate in its description of what the book is - which will inevitably lead to disappointment. However, the patterns, on the whole are very good. I'm 50+ and will knit quite a few of these, my son's girlfriend at 20, highlighted quite a few she liked too. There are however, one or two odd shapeless garments and a disjointed shawl that we would both avoid like the plague. On the whole we agreed this was a worthwhile purchase. If you don't want to fiddle with beads, the beaded items could be made without - you can always adapt a good pattern. Another bonus is that because the patterns are knitted in Louisa harding's yarn, even though this book is published in the USA, knitters in the UK and elsewhere will be able to knit without substituting yarn. I love the hats, the scarves, the bags, those little cardigan - shrug-type shorties - so sweet and quick to knit, the shawls. I think elegant describes the majority of the patterns.
