Customer Review

on 17 May 2014
First got this on VCR in the late eighties and this period master piece has fascinated me for decades .based on a fictional novel following Mary Shelly's exile with lover poet Shelley and .sister Claire in 1819 to Italy , where they meet Byron and Polidori for a summer of what would have been depraved behaviour at the time free love , opium indulgence and playing mind games, leading to the creation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.
I found the acting with Eric Stoltz as Shelley and Alice Krige as Mary Shelley and Laura Dern as Claire. quite lacklustre and the dialogue poor. however this is over ridden by .spectacular scenery and eerie atmosphere capturing the period. And the hauntingly eerie soundtrack of neo classical gothic electronica .
This film needs to be digitally remastered and a new version with the likes of James Mcavoy and Keira Knightly wouldn't go a miss ! However if you get the chance to capture this sapphire get it haunted Summer will inspire you.
