True human spirit and the willingness to survive,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child Called It (Paperback)
I picked this book up off my sisters kitchen table in curiosity. For the next four hours I sat in the same chair and did not move, speak and sometimes even breathe until I had read every last word. My partner walked into the room and I just stood there in front of him and cried. Never have I been so moved by a book that shows the sheer cruelty and depravity that human nature can inflict on the most vunerable, and yet at the same time show how strong the human spirit can be. So many times we hear how people have had hard lives and yet how anyone can complain after hearing what evil a small boy can endure and still come out the other side not only a sane person but a signal of what we can really do with our lives and the goodness and love we can bring to people is unimaginable.
This book will make you want to hold every child in your arms and protect them forever against the world and hope that nothing like this could ever be allowed to happen to anyone again.
I spend everyday wishing I had never read the book as it still creates horrible images in my head yet am thankful I have so I can now understand how lucky my life is.
