The Faces only released 4 studio albums and this was the final one. Live, they were the best rock band in the world. In the studio, they leaned more towards country-rock and Ronnie Lane had a lot more influence both in songwriting and singing duties. This album is a bit of a swansong for Ronnie. As his influence in the band waned, so did his interest and he soon left to form Slim Chance. The title track is brilliant, but although many people think it is Ronnie Lane singing, it is infact Ron Wood - hence the fact that it sounds like the singer has been gargling with scouring powder. We used to joke at the time that Ron Wood made Arthur Mullard sound like Julie Andrews (if you don't know who they are, ask your dad). If you like this, try the other Faces albums (particularly Nod's and Long Player) and Rod's first 4 albums are also pretty good. Don't be tempted by Ron Wood's solo album (I've got my own album to do) - it's awful. Stick to the painting Ron!
