This review is from: The Reluctant Detective (The Reluctant Detective Mysteries Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
I really enjoyed this book. Unlike some of the other reviews I have read I didn't find the characters or the story boring.
I liked the main character and felt he was well written. My only criticism is that sometimes there was too much detail - for example the main character talks about picking up his eye pod "that I had charged earlier". We don't need to know that - it doesn't add to the story - there are quite a few examples of this level of detail throughout the book and sometimes there are detailed conversations that you, as the reader, think will mean something to the story, but they don't go anywhere - for example very detailed ordering of food in cafes etc.
I think the book would have benefited from some editing in this respect and that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.
I have bought the next two books in the series on the basis of this one.
