Customer Review

on 7 October 2012
American Caesars is a not remotely objective biography of the twelve Presidents from FDR to George W Bush. Hamilton clearly has strong opinions about most of them, but this makes the book more interesting than an even-handed treatment. The early chapters, about the dull but decent FDR, Truman and Eisenhower are a little heavy-going but the book becomes increasingly more interesting as the merits, flaws, mistakes and successes of the later Presidents come into view. The book does bring home the terrible errors in the field of conflict that many of them made, at the lengths that some of them went to get elected in the first place, and that some of them ever managed to ascend to such high office.
