I have many railway books. This is one of the best because it is so different from all of the others and because it is of the personal memories and experiences of a much admired and respected railwayman. The lengthy anecdotal captions are amusing and interesting to read no matter where the book falls open. The photos are of great interest too as nearly all of them have beaming colleagues/friends of R.H.N.H.included in the scene and railways are about people, they improve the pictures greatly. The shots of beautiful, mostly, old steam engines are fascinting. The only adverse comment that I would make is that the copy I received from Amazon is slightly damaged, the red spine is rubbed at the top and bottom corners showing the white board base, there is also a noticeable bruise/dent on the back cover. These damages were done before despatch, not by Royal Mail as the card envelope is undamaged. Not worth exchanging.
