I bought this book for an able child. I was disappointed on a number of grounds. The book is clearly written by a mathematician who has forgotten how much maths children do NOT know. In other words, in many places the text presumed knowledge that a child will not have, and therefore is opaque / confusing. There are several errors in the book, both in language and - on first glance - in numbers. The explanations are often very poor - even as an adult with a numerate background, I sometimes struggled to interpret them. Interesting concepts are introduced, but left at that, with little or no expansion or extrapolation to the real world. Finally, the illustrations appear to have been done by a child, rather than for children. All in all, it could have been done so much better - what a shame.
