A look back in time,
This review is from: The Old Howe of Fife (Paperback)
Like pretty well every book of this kind, this book is of little interest if you do not come from the area depicted. However, if you are from there.....
I'm a Fifer born and bred, as is my Dad and almost everyone else in my family going back to the late 1500s. My Dad grew up in North-East Fife and I was born in Auchtermuchty, so the Howe of Fife is well-known to us both. Even into the sixties the fabric of the Howe towns and villages had changed hardly at all from the way they were when the book's various photos were taken, and we were both able to pick out features we recognised and recalled from earlier days. My own personal favourite is the photo of Auchtermuchty Primary School, which looked exactly like I remember it from my first day at school in 1961.
A little treasure-house of photographic records, and one which I'm sure will have Fifers everywhere poring over the images, delighted with what they find.
