This review is from: Starhawk (Academy) (Paperback)
Having read most of Jack McDevitt's work I had high hopes of his latest release. As usual the review on the back cover was inaccurate, but one can get over that.
Having started to read the book I could not believe that this was the same author who had written books such as "Chindi", "Omega", or "Cauldron" etc. Where "Engines of God 7" came into it I could not understand - perhaps someone could explain?
In my opinion I am reluctant to say that the writing was very Juvenlile and not what I would expect from this well-known author. The plot was thin and the characters feeble.
If the author had wanted to carry on with the "Hutch" series he would have done better to have read his own last page in "Cauldron" where Hutch's son Charlie started to take in interest in becoming a pilot. Perhaps he could have brought the "Monument Makers" into a new story as well!!!
Very disappointed with this later offering and I would certainly not recommend it to any serious McDevitt fan.
