Good modern commentary,

This review is from: For Everyone: The Complete New Testament Collection (New Testament for Everyone) (Paperback)
I already have commentaries - and regularly use the Oxford and Eerdman's, as they represent different viewpoints. I also have the old IVP Tyndale commentaries for the New Testament but I wanted a more modern approach that brought out some of the latest thinking. Thus Tom Wright's complete set seemed like a good idea.
It is: whether you agree with everything he writes, is not the point. What is helpful is to have books that are readable.
Each volume has his own translation, followed by his views on the text. It is not an academic work and there are no references to other books. Some of his other works are more scholarly (these are the ones where he is credited as N T Wright) but these are a popular approach. There is a 17 page glossary, which is the same in each volume, at the end and the style of this indicates these are intended for a general readership.
They remind me a bit of more detailed bible reading notes and with smallish sections could be used in that way, if you wished. Although there are a series of bible reading notes under his penmanship.
At Amazon's price it was a good discount
Only minor quibble was one volume was not quite perfect (wrongly cut so printing was skewed on page) but Amazon sorted that out.
