If you're an Eels fan, this is essential reading. If you're not, it's a terrific sketch of a fascinating life and will read as well as many an autobiography. It's an easy read, but by no means insubstantial; it has its depressing moments, but is by no means joyless. The cliches are all there, if you want to be so reductive - touching, poignant, disarming... etc. Never mind, though: just read the thing and tell me you didn't enjoy it and weren't fascinated by it. Go on, just you try it.
