This review is from: Humax HDR-2000T 500GB Freeview HD Digital TV Recorder (Electronics)
I have decided to précis my previous review - although it went into more detail the bottom line is very easy to state:

The interface is unintuitive and laggs a very long way behind products made by others (Apple for example)

I'm not sure whether the remote works properly as the light on the device stays red sometimes when it is in fact on, but as it takes so long to come on it is impossible to tell whether it will or not unless you simply wait. This is typical of the confusing and unintuitive way this thing is organised.

For example if you want to cancel a recording you cannot do so, while in any of the menues only if watching the recorded channel in full screen. Only then. Bonkers

i.e. the interface is about ten years out of date:

- sorry but it is - NO REALLY- IT IS!

every device I have had to date I haven't had to read the manual. A few mnutes messing about and normally you get it - not with this useless thing - we're still finding it utterly unintuitive weeks later with it, even after reading the manual! (same a year later)

yes it does offer options -sometimes- but there are occasions when it doesnt and then you have to go through all the options to find what you want - i.e. unintuitive - sorry if you disagree but that IS my experience of it.

Bottom line: this is simply not an intuitive device to use| I'm happy that others find it easy but my opinion is that it is a badly laid out operating system

EDIT: after using it for a good time now I can categorically state THE WAY THIS THING WORKS IS CUMBERSOME AND COUNTERINTUITIVE, in fact some of the controls just defy common sense

yes you can learn how to make it work for you , but it is a very badly thought out system, there are many products out there that do it MUCH better AND having spoken to others I know that actually own it, (three of them software writers) they concur enthusiastically with me, so 'm not alone in thinking the software is cumbersome and counterintuitive, it is. (Unless you've never heard of Apple or never used anything else better, as you might suppose from the lack of support for this review) ;)

- plenty of people don't like my review it seems, well, that's fine, go ahead and buy it, but don't blame me when you feel like throwing the remote at it.

Charlie says:
It does not sound like a Humax HDR-2000T.

For example to stop a recording is very easy. Without going into the menus you just need to press the `stop' button on the remote. Just in case you pressed the `stop' button by accident it will then ask you to confirm that you do want to stop the recording.

Another example is the opting out when it asks if you want to record a single programme or a series. The options also include `cancel'. Selecting `cancel' will take you back to the epg entry for the programme. Or you could just press `exit' or `back' on the remote.

Another example is if having just set a timer on the wrong programme when in the epg. If you do that and press the record button a second time it will ask you to confirm that you want to delete the timer just in case you pressed the record button the second time by accident.

bizarre, well it is -

and you're wrong about the cancelling a recording that ONLY works if you are watching it in full screen, in any other mode it will not respond to any cancel or other command- so either I have a duff model or duff remote or the programming is pants
