An accomplished and confident debut,

Amplifiers eponymous debut is a fine example of modern rock with a slightly retro feel.
It is an album composed of a single mood. Melodic but downbeat with most of the tracks delivered in mid-tempo with a bass heavy, lightly fuzzy, feedbacky sound.
More of a stoner groove rather than full on rock (foot-tapping and swaying rather than vigorous headbanging) and occupying a middle ground somewhere between Pearl Jam's Ten, Soundgarden's Superunknown and Tool's Lateralus. Despite these exhalted comparisons and the fact that Conspiracy, Panzer, One Great Summer and the opener Motorhead are all very good songs, the album does just lack that killer track (hence the 4 stars rather than 5) .
My only real issue is with the extended intros and outros that appear on a few of the songs. It's the kind of over-indulgence that is ok when you are in the mood.
None the less, this is a very accomplished and confident debut and I recommend that you give it a spin.
