This review is from: Run Lola Run [DVD] (DVD)
Who would have thought that a film in which as much of half of its length is taken up by the main protagonist simply pounding it along the streets of Berlin could possibly be so mesmerising. There is something strangely hypnotic about simply watching Lola run, maybe its the brilliant crimson hair or the techno soundtrack. Franka Portente handles her neccersarily quite limited role brilliantly and injects really warmth and feeling into her character, as well as her running.
The plot still manages to be engaging for all that it is in many ways simply a collection of vignettes. These all manage to hang together sufficiently well to keep attention high and this flim never gets broing. The quiet red lit scenes at the changeover period juxtapose brilliently with the rest of the picture. The art direction throughout is superb.
Not a great work of art and not especially thoughtful, though by no means stupid either, but certainly very worthwhile. If only to see something a little bit different.
