4.0 out of 5 stars Just make up your own minds, 17 Jun. 2014
This review is from: Distant Satellites (Audio CD)
I enjoy this release. Some will not. But reading some of these comments do make me smile. No wonder prog 'fans' are looked upon as being very strange people. If it dont sound like Yes or Genesis then it must sound like Coldplay. You do wonder who these 'prog reviwers' write for. Dandy, Beano maybe. Just make up your own minds. If you think it is 'progressive' then fine. Just please dont knock music to much, particularly at this time and this genre. The future looks grim for music. Help it why we still have labels such as KScope trying their best for us to keep it going.

'I've managed to upset one person with my view , so that's got to be good. Anathema seems to be one of those bands that really appeals to the Amazon Troll' --is the quote i have just read on another post. If you dont agree then you must be a troll. It does nothing to dispel the myth that prog 'fans' are a strange bunch. I do wonder what their mission is. Wonderful stuff.

The comment you have quoted was made by me. Perhaps you could have addressed it on that thread, rather than adding a comment to your own review?

The point that I was trying to make - obviously unsuccessfully - was that Anathema are a band that divide those who review them. There is a section of the fanbase that hark back to the Doomier days, and there is a section that much prefers the more modern, 'poppier' stuff. And there's a much smaller section, which includes me, who has enjoyed the journey the band has made and has enjoyed that progression, if I can use that word without being too offensive. Quite often if you write a review that upsets a paticular camp, your review is viewed as being 'unhelpful'. What I find unhelpful is people who don't review the music, but review other reviews, or other reviewers.

I'm a big fan of K-Scope. That comes across in some of the other reviews I've done (Sand, North Atlantic Oscillation, among others).

Must admit to skip reading some of these review. I did not, initially, associate the Coldplay remark to your review. But after re reading ityours was a good review. I do however get really annoyed (not with you) at some of these reviewers who over analyse with their critisism. Maybe like you, I have been a music fan since the mid 60's and I just hate to see it in the mess it finds itself in now. I do tend to shoot from the hip (grumpy old man syndrome?) in defence of music, particular this genre, at a time it needs all the help it can get. But yes, yours was a decent review despite the comparrisons.

The album is crap. Don't know why people have given it four and five stars. Couldn't care if you disagree with my review, as if Amazon is a reliable source anyway.

Agree with the last bit re amazon being reliable. I guess the 4 or 5 stars is because some folk actually enjoy it. As for writing a negative review for an album you dont like - that one confuses me. Too much time on yer hands springs to mind.

Well it didn't take me a lot of time to write a review lol.

I doubt you have even bothered to buy the album and listen. I would find it very hard to believe that anyone who isn't in to Anathema in some way would but one of their albums and take the time to listen to the album from start to finish on a few occasions, which would then enable them to write a balanced review. So I discard your views from the bottom of my shoe.......oh..... and LOL!

Well, I didn't buy it (waste of money) but I did listen to it.

Went back to it a while ago and I still feel the same. Opinions...opinions....LOL
