The 'Mock The Week' of 1969.,
This review is from: Jokers Wild - The Complete Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
I first came across 'Jokers Wild' on Granada plus several years ago and have been hoping for a DVD release ever since. The format is very simple, six top comedians of their day (Some you'll have heard of, others like Kenny Cantor may be new to you)are given a topic and must tell a joke on that topic. Other contestants can interupt with a better joke. Points are awarded but as in todays 'Mock the Week' points aren't really the point.
The jokes are sometimes corny, sometimes a little politically incorrect, but if you don't like one, another one comes zinging along soon after.
As a big Barry Cryer fan it's interesting to see him as the host, keeping everything flowing along and creating laughs if tumbleweed has just followed one comedian's material.
Students of comedy, nostalgia hounds like myself and fans of sit down comedy will love it.
Another link to 'Mock The Week' is that sometime contestant Michael Mcintyre's father Ray Cameron co - created the show. He went on with Barry Cryer to write the Kenny Everett show for years.
