Customer Review

on 4 January 2001
For anyone seeking to understand the background and development of the Soviet Union up to 1985 this is an invaluable, if not THE book, to consult.
It is, in my opinion, the only resource which explains: how the USSR got to where it was, why it did not (in spite of what is stated in so many other places) become a communist country, and why its command economy socialism failed.
One word of warning though, it is spectacularly badly and turgidly written. The facts and content are great, the style and presentation are awful.
Overall - worth the effort.
