This is more than a cookbook, it is a time traveler's tool, a way to recreate the last diner onboard the Titanic. Even though it is a bit morbid considering that for most passengers this was the last diner of their lives, it is a fascinating read.
The recipes are divided into three sections, that of the first, second and third class menus, and are very detailed and easy to cook. It includes classic dishes like the Lamp with Mint Sauce and the Filets Mignons Lili but also rare recipes which were served on the Titanic. There are also detailed information on how the foods were cooked then and what could make them more up to date as well as what is unavailable or difficult to find now and what substitutes we can use.
Apart from the recipes section of the book, it contains every possible information about the last diner of the Titanic and everything anyone could possibly need to know in order to recreate this diner. There is information on table settings, manners, clothing, music, even facts about the passengers dining on each table. Also a very well organized plan to help you prepare the menu, and that is a significant help considering that the first class menu alone consists of eleven courses.
Delicious recipes, fascinating information about the ship and the diner customs of the time, beautiful illustrations, in total a very well researched and wonderfully written book.
