Let's set the record straight. No this isn't an audophile recording but it's only fair to dock one star for what is one of his greatest ever performances.
He plays the electric mandolin with the energy and rhythm of Bo Diddley. Above all, the mandolin comes over very clearly - almost frighteningly reverberantly and the rhythmn players including an almost Gypsy violin play with all the energy of a latter day sub-contiental Velvet Underground. Compared to his rather sleepy (but often beautiful and moving) latter day albums, this thundering but well mastered recording comes over first and foremost as a high energy group performance with U Srinivas in his early prime. Only miss this if you prefer hi-tech joss stick music.
