A WEEK IN WINTER,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A Week in Winter (Hardcover)
When Chicky meets an American man named Walter and falls in love she finds herself leaving her beloved Ireland to be with him in New York. However her marriage fails and Chicky returns home where circumstances prevailing she opens up a hotel.
I have enjoyed many of the novels written by the late Maeve Binchy, but if I am being honest I have to say that in my opinion it was not as good as some of her other books. On saying that it was an easy and comfortable read full of likeable characters that are very much the trademark of this popular author.

I agree. Whist I enjoyed reading it, I was left with a feeling of slight disappointment when I'd finished it as there was some undefinable 'something' missing from this novel, compared with her previous novels (and I've read all of them). An 8 out of 10, instead of the usual full marks. Having said that, I will really miss the anticipation of Maeve's next novel and, if she's reading her reviews from on high, thank you, Maeve, for all the hours of pure pleasure you have given me.

From what I gather Ms. Binchy was very ill when she wrote this. We're lucky to have it at all. I'm so going to miss her works.
