1.0 out of 5 stars YAWN!, 3 July 2007
This review is from: Barbarella [DVD] [1968] (DVD)
The continued popularity of certain films simply baffles me. A movie that is bad and trashy isn't automatically entitled to retroactive adulation simply because it's old. This film is one of the worst offenders in that category of motion picture. It's boring, highly overrated, immature, infantile, cheap and nasty nonsense! Take off the rose tinted spectacles people! And for those who haven't seen it, all I can say is, avoid it the same way you would the black death!

IGNORANCE and BAD TASTE is seeing only the RECENT RUBBISH in front of your nose now in 2008.
I suggest people LEARN , WATCH and RATE CORRECTLY the 1960s CLASSICS.

Remember seeing this when it came out. I had been a fan of the book, which I still treasure today. However, I guess we are too accustomed to first class special effects nowadays. It may be a piece or erotic sci-fi from that time but it really looks too cheap. I also have to say that they could have done better re-editing it, adding some special feature, interview etc. It should not be forgotten that this film became kind of cult right a way and it would be interesting to see how those who made it (well, I guess most os the cast are now dead an buried) reassess it today. Not a pleasurable experience, however. Sorry.

"Highly over rated, immature, infantile nonsense! Avoid it the same way you would the black death. "

A description that I suggest would apply to 99% of all film and 100% of television "entertainment" nowadays. I suspect the author of this review wasn't around in the 1960s and therefore won't have any appreciation of the times when Barbarella was made. I was - my late teens. Barbarella is a product of its time and well beyond the limited comprehension the "Eastenders" generation.

This review is just ridiculous. I have read through some of your other reviews as well. I think you lot a watch a lot of films with the purpose and intention of not liking them? Am I right?

Either that, or you do not have a clue what films you really like? You either seem quite confused about the idea of good film or you are just plain ignorant to the idea of good film. Which is it?
