Just a fantastic little amp,
This review is from: Fatman Fitvd Itube Valvedock (Electronics)
Just brought one of the mk1 version of these amps, without the dock for a 100 quid. Newer version has USB which I don't need and didn't see the point of the dock either, as I use Airplay to stream from my iDevices.
If you go the AirPort Express route rather than the dock, then make sure you also get a DAC to connect between the two, as without a better DAC the sound from the Airport is simply horrid. The optical out is inside the headphone jack socket, so you need a special lead to connect this up. I use a Cambridge Audio MagicDac which costs as much as a Fatman system, however, it's worth every penny, has three selectable inputs, two digital, one USB and even lets you choose from three different conversion methods. So you can connect a few thing to it.
I've attached a little Rolls MX42 passive RCA mixer to the AirPort Express/Cambridge Audio MagicDac, an old record player/CAMBRIDGE AUDIO AZUR 540P MM Phono Pre Amp and a SONOS ZonePlayer 90 Wireless Music Player. This allows me to start any of my three sources and get sound without the need for any source selecting.
For now I've just connected up a pair of very old Gale Reference speakers, and was taken aback by how much better they sounded.
