There is a real need for a Welsh etymological dictionary. This volume goes some of the way to answering that need. The author has compiled what he describes as a directory of 'root' words in Welsh, matched systematically with the vocabulary with which they compound to create ten thousand or more words in common use. The result is a fascinating demonstration of how the language links together and has branched out. Entries are nicely laid out in a clear typeface and are great fun to dip into for a bit of general knowledge. And the book is a really useful tool for learning and study. We would not willingly give up our copy and I strongly recommend it.
