Johnny Meynell, who I am still to meet, is one of those chaps every club needs but few could be blessed with. If only the team had played on the park with all the gusto, accuracy and care to detail of his writings they would be in the Premiership. Probably, alone, he has remained sanguine despite the downs and downs of the club (with permanent difficulties and a death-wish). There is only the gentlest of pointed fingers. Johnny searches ever for the silver lining, which we all knew presaged a Pennine downpour. Even the Watney Cup beating Manchester United, including Best, Law and Charlton, doesn't get the gloat it might have done. I'll read, and re-read that page!! A heavy-weight tome all Shaymen should have.
