A really nice show - a wonderful concert,
This review is from: Willie Nelson: What A Wonderful World [DVD] (DVD)
Willie Nelson stands out, not only as an accomplished and highly creative musician, but also as perhaps a true gentleman of the world music stage today. Both these things come alive in this concert, making it what I would call a wonderful show. I especially enjoy 'Ole' buttermilk sky', 'Spanish eyes' and 'On the road again' - to me they are the hands down best numbers on the DVD, but there is no bad song. Also, the way he relates and interacts with his fellow band members, the choir and the audience - it is really something, it is good to see that it is not all about getting into the spotlight and making money, but more so, about having good friends. I recommend this DVD highly.
I have to say that he doesn't play COUNTRY music here, he performs older american classics in a way that is both his own and faithful. The selection is a bit special, and it took me aback to begin with. So, I guess, bar in mind that the songs are perhaps not what you would immediately expect. But still, it is a good concert, and it has broadened my horizons in terms of music - the songs are all solid, the way I see it. I will definitely not get rid of it now that I have it, that's for **** sure :)
