I have been waiting for this spectacular widescreen adventure film to come out on DVD for some time. Now that it is being advertised as an October release, I couldn't wait for it to come out, until that is, I noticed that Pegasus plans to release it in a 1:33:1 aspect ratio version instead of it's original 2:55:1. This means they will chop at least three-quarters of the film's aspect ratio, leaving purchasers with just a small square picture, the very centre of the film to look at on our large wide-screen TV's. How can they get away with this? Why do they want to do that? It's going to seriously affect their sales as I and many, many others will not contemplate buying their DVD's in that butchered state. Surely this goes against the Trades Description Act as this film was made in 2:55:1 and boasts Cinemascope on the cover picture. The four stars are for the film itself not it's disappointing aspect ratio. Well Pegasus, here's one potential buyer you've lost even before the DVD is out.
