Not an MBA, but a good starting point for people that want to know more,
This review is from: The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business (Audio Download)
As many people have pointed out, this is not an MBA, nor is it a real substitute for one. However ... there are a number of reasons you should look at this anyway if you are considering an MBA (if you already have one then just don't bother - this is just unnecessary for you):
- This will give you a good idea of what an MBA contains
- You will probably come away knowing whether you really want do do an MBA or not.
- You may find the knowledge here is enough for you, and gives you enough grounding to do further reading on your own without going to the expense of getting an MBA.
Of course I'm not in the US, so the costs that Kaufman talks about are nowhere near as much as they are there. Nor do I think there is quite as much snobbery about which institution you got your MBA from (note I say not as much, not that there is none ...)
I would also echo the comments of others who point out that the first hour is just a lot of self-justification, and waffling on about how much MBAs cost and why you (probably) shouldn't do one. I'd suggest you just skip this and get to the meat of the book.
For me - who has already read a fair bit on this subject - there was not an awful lot of new stuff. I did think it was well organised though, and a very helpful summary. I wish I'd read it 10 years ago - it probably would have been a lot more use to me then. It still gave me a number of things to think about though, and a few recommendations for other books that I will be picking up.
