This is a really nice cookbook with lots of really lovely recipes. The photography inspires you to cook. Recipes for snacks and starters include Sunblush terrine; cumin potato skins & guacamole; courgette blossom & tomato frittatas; garlic toasts with two types of hummus. There are lots of lovely salads and a chapter full of soups such as white gazpacho, chilled cucumber and lovage and a beautiful summer minestrone. The bread chapter has a small number of recipes but they are all good. Another chapter covers fast food (for example, carrot & coriander fritters with grilled halloumi and a lemon dressing - gorgeous although they are a little fiddly to prepare). Other favourite recipes include shredded root veg gratin, an oven-baked pea, barley & broad bean frittata, and borage tortelli with sage butter. For pud you could try bitter chocolate & salted caramel torte or almond tart with red berry compote.
All told a really nice book of more unusual recipes with a section at the end giving menu suggestions which is useful. There is also a handy section covering basic recipes such as sauces, dresings, etc.. I have seen some reviews which mention that some ingredients that have been difficult to find outside urban areas. I live in a small rural village but I haven't really found sourcing and obtaining ingredients this to be a problem with this book (although it has been for some of the recipes in Alice's latest book, 'Friends at My Table'). I can't think of anything which I haven't been able to find in one of the two branches of Waitrose which are my nearest supermarkets. For any more unusual herbs and spices I order online from Seasoned Pioneers.
